Jacob Kolb was the colony’s storekeeper. He was conscripted to the Union Army in 1864 and returned to Ora Labora in 1866.

He was acting Secretary of the community in 1863.

During a struggle for control of the colony, he was accused of selling items above cost and keeping the profits. This violation of the colonies bylaws cost him to be expelled from the sect.
